VISET Takes COVID-19 Health Packs Donations to Beitbridge

The Vendors Initiative for Social and Economic Transformation (VISET) on 11 June 2020 was in Beitbridge town continuing with their national drive of raising awareness of COVID-19 along with donations of personal protective equipment (PPEs).
The occasion was graced by His Worship Councillor Morgen Ncube, council officials as well as local leadership.
VISET Executive Director Mr. Samuel Wadzai in his remarks at the occasion emphasized on the need for vendors to lead the fight against COVID-19 through the practice of safe hygiene in their workspaces. To this end, VISET Director launched the VISET Informal Traders Pledge where vendors give a written undertaking to practice mitigatory measures such as social distancing, washing of hands, wearing of face masks as well as pledging to abstain from work when sick, along with seeking medical care.
The pledge was enthusiastically embraced by the leadership at Musina Rank Market who undertook to ensure their membership would abide by.
The Mayor hailed VISET for their donation and expressed gratitude as they are the first organization to undertake this initiative.
Beitbridge being a border town, is experiencing numerous challenges from the COVID-19 inspired border closure. Besides loss of incomes, many residents are now at risk as some traders are violating the lockdown measures by going through unauthorized points at the border. In light of this, the Mayor urged government to open up the border so as to curtail illegal movements that have the potential to undo efforts aimed at combating the pandemic.
